Your Pledge and Holly PCs Future

The pledge Holly PC members and friends make and the offerings they are always important to the church, and this is doubly the case for 2006 and 2007.  Those pledges and offerings are not just money the church puts in the bank.  They are a statement the church’s members make to the session, the whole church, and to next year’s Pulpit Nominating Committee (PNC) about what kind of pastor the church wants.

The session has reorganized itself and is in the midst of planning an expanded program for 2006 and beyond, a church program that it hopes will be an increased source of Christian support for the membership and will allow Holly PC to reach out to the world around it more effectively.  The bottom line is that a strong, growing church (which is what all of the members want) needs money.  A strong church, one that is more than just an institution, can’t be built on weak giving.  The pledges for 2006 and the giving during the year will send a clear message to session about whether or  not Holly PC wants to be a strong, loving community of faith.

The level of giving and the size of the pledges received by Holly PC will also influence directly the choice of the congregation’s next pastor.  Solid pledging and giving in 2006 and in 2007 will send a message to the PNC, namely, “Go for the best pastor you can find.”  It will send a message to prospective candidates that Holly PC is a small church with a big heart and a commitment to the future.  Weak pledging and giving over the next two years sends the opposite signals.  The PNC will not be able to compete seriously with other Presbyterian churches for the best candidate possible.  The best prospective candidates will not consider a church that doesn’t seem to give very well.

We can all be sure that prospective candidates will look at our pledging and giving figures for 2006 and 2007.  Truth is, the members of Holly PC are already casting their votes for the next minister when they fill out (or don’t fill out) a pledge card, when they give or don’t give, and by the amount given.  The most important voting for the new minister will take place during the stewardship drives of this year and next.
