“I would be happy to help ... if I only knew what to do!”

Have you thought about volunteering to usher, greet, or even take that big leap and serve as lay leader? … but didn’t do it because you weren’t sure what you were getting yourself into … or whether or not you are “qualified?” Well, there is no reason to hesitate now! Read below to find out what participating in these important volunteer opportunities would mean for you.

Usher

Serving as usher is a rewarding way to serve in the church.  You only need to open and prepare the sanctuary for worship, pass out bulletins, collect the offerings, and straighten up following worship. A detailed checklist and training is provided to help you.

Lay Leader

Assisting in leading worship is a blessing to you and to others. You will read liturgy, like the Call to Worship, and possibly scripture, as determined by Pastor Sharlyn.  You will receive your readings ahead of time and training is available for you.

Communion Server

Serving communion is a rewarding way to serve in worship. Communion servers assist Pastor Sharlyn in serving the elements to the congregation either by intinction or traditional methods. Training is available for you.  You can sign up for these opportunities on the sign up sheet in the narthex, or by calling Dessalee Cook at 248-634-5680

Greeter

The only requirement to do this job is the ability to reach out and shake peoples hands, and greet them with a warm smile! … oh, and be on time!  It is as simple as that! If you think you would like to help out by welcoming visitors, friends and members one Sunday morning, please see Carol Ohlmacher, or call her at 248-634-4141.

Coffee Hour

You can share your gift of hospitality with the congregation by providing a treat to share. If you would like to help with making coffee and cleaning up that is needed also.  Please see Roberta Single with any questions or call her at 248-634-4360.

Gathering Place Host (Sunday School)

The only requirement for this volunteer position is that you enjoy spending time with some of the most energetic, intelligent, and funny young people God ever created!  We love having guests help in The Gathering Place! If you volunteer to serve as a “Host” you would get the option of reading or telling stories, helping with crafts, or music and drama! What fun!  The Gathering Place starts at 9:00am with a snack, and lets out about 10:00am.  See a member of the Christian Education Team to volunteer; Christine Cook, Mandie Banks, Laura Parker, Fran Olson, or Tracy Elliott.
